• What coverages does Kinsale's Health Care Division offer for Veterinary Medicine?

  Kinsale’s Health Care Division offers three specialized coverage options for Veterinary Medicine professionals and practices, available monoline or in any combination:

  • Professional Liability helps to cover claims arising from professional errors, omissions, or negligent acts in the rendering of veterinary services.
  • General Liability protects against third-party bodily injury and property damage claims arising from day-to-day practice operations.
  • Bailee’s Coverage addresses liability for animals in the insured’s care, custody, or control.

  Our target classes include:

  • Veterinarian, Vet Tech, & Behavioral Specialists
  • Miscellaneous animal services like trainers groomers, walkers, etc.
  • Animal rescue, adoption, & fostering organizations

• Are your Veterinary Medicine policies written on a claims-made or occurrence basis?

  It depends on the line. Professional Liability and General Liability are written on a Claims-Made and Reported basis only.

  Bailee’s coverage is written on an occurrence form. This distinction matters because Bailee’s responds to loss or harm to animals in the insured’s care, custody, or control, making an occurrence trigger more appropriate given the immediate and discoverable nature of those losses.

  If you have any questions about the implications of a Claims-Made and Reported form, including tail options and extended reporting periods, contact your underwriter who will be happy to walk through the details.

• Can you provide coverage without an animal exclusion?

  Yes. Kinsale can provide coverage without a standard animal exclusion for eligible veterinary accounts.

  When animal liability coverage is included, Kinsale may deploy an Animal Liability sublimit endorsement covering animal bites, attacks, and related incidents at a lower sublimit than the policy’s primary limits. This structure allows us to offer broad, practical coverage while appropriately managing the exposure.

  Underwriting will evaluate the nature of the practice, types of animals treated or handled, and prior loss history when determining eligibility, if a sublimit is necessary, and the specific sublimit amounts.

• Does your General Liability offering include a dedicated Medical Expense Limit?

  No. Kinsale’s General Liability coverage for Veterinary Medicine accounts does not include a dedicated Medical Expense Limit. This is an important distinction when comparing coverage options or reviewing policy terms with your client.

  If a dedicated Medical Expense Limit is a specific coverage requirement, contact our underwriting team to discuss the exposure.

• Do you cover animal-related businesses that aren't traditional veterinary practices?

  Yes. Beyond licensed veterinary professionals and practices, Kinsale can consider a range of animal-related service businesses, including:

  • Pet groomers
  • Dog walkers & pet sitters
