In July, the FAA’s Modernization of Special Airworthiness Certification (MOSAIC) rule removed the old weight cap on light-sport aircraft, opening the door to a broader range of new designs, like gyroplanes and light sport aircraft. Combined with expanded sport pilot privileges, it put more aircraft within reach of more pilots, including many legacy trainers and, with an endorsement, retractable-gear models.
